Kaixiang dinner on Saturday + Swatou dimsum afternoon hi-tea buffet on Sunday

14/12/2013 Saturday
PG's NS unit had a cohesion event at River Safari @ Zoo ytd which lasted till about 4 pm. WX didn't go as he got lesson in the late afternoon. So both of them preferred to dine out...

So ngam that parents and 姑婆 went Johor and dinner had to settle ownself. So of course was free to dinner out lo...

好大粒的蝦棗!
好吃!

 麥片蝦
麥片跟蝦的味道不夠融合
所以不夠香

Had 麥片蝦、蝦棗、蠔蛋 and white rice at Kaixiang @ Blk 349 - a tze char affair! Felt the 麥片蝦 could have more fragrant and stand out ds, but instead it tasted a little bit bland. Prawns were fresh though. 蝦棗 was a big ball, not the usual small small one. The first bite sent me the impression that it was just normal those slightly atas fishballs - fishballs with inside one. But it wasn't that bad la. 蠔蛋 was omelette with on top - not fried together as opposed to 蠔煎.

Damage: $34.80 for 3 persons

Walked to westgate. WX had a little mishap on the pavements - 他一腳栽進施工地 - the cement was wet! Right leg and shoe kena... Aigoo... Didn't buy anything at westgate. Basement was super super super crowded, it didn't feel like some atas shopping mall lo. But the overall feel was quite similar to the one in Buyeo (South Korea) shown on Running Man - open concept. PG wanted to buy royce so he had to exchange the NS vouchers into capitaland ones. Omg, the waiting time for the concierge service was sooooo long. First time seeing concierge service got Q number system one. All along thought concierge always not much people one, just walk in and inquire the staff. It was so long till I got time to have 2 rounds of SGS... Real bad impression on them.

*Tempted to get the Dell Ultrasharp U2412m monitor!

15/12/2013 Sunday
Morning had the usual gym session. But my small thighs were painful since Friday when I went for jog. Maybe I sprinted too much on Monday and Wednesday, it was real pain so I only ran for 10 mins on threadmill. Furthermore, I walked from westgate to home the night before. This could have added on the fatigue.

Thanks WX for providing the breads! ^^

Anyway, didn't put in 100% at gym because excited over the dimsum buffet later on. WX, too, was excited about the sushi feast in the afternoon. Went home to wash up and prepared to go out - didn't have the chance to rest lo. Thought I was going to late and 157 arrival time was quite bad, went opposite Hua Yi to take 187 (train down to Toa Payoh) which I saw it coming before I crossed the road xyy ds... Subsequently I arrived slightly early, so went to deposit some cash to buy monitor. LOL... Yes decided to buy it as I waited for almost 2 years for it le. Time to upgrade a bigger monitor with at least 1920 x 1080 to take advantage of the Windows 7 multiwindow multitasking capability and Win XP loses out on this lo. Talk about this in the next section.

PG saggy as he insisted to go Toa Payoh by bus and 157 wasn't coming, so he took 66 first to Bukit Timah then change to 157. After that he hdg coz two 157 came at the same time! Just when I thought he would have alighted at Toa Payoh interchange, he whatsapp said he at the restaurant liao! Waaaa... JX too also arrived. Then walked over to meet two of them first. Jordan said the vet clinic was unusually crowded and he tried to rush down ASAP and Wiyatno flew us aeroplane coz he went zoukout party too tired or the hangover effect still there I don't know le. So 3 of us went in first without Jordan.

Compared to 2 years ago, I thought this time round not much people. But the actual scene proved me wrong! We were allocated to a tablelocked (analogous to landlocked countries) seats. Service was somewhat a bit disappointing because some waitresses just pushed the trolley full of food serving the tables along the aisles without coming in and ask us if we wanted the food. Variety was average and it was worse than last time!

Where was the 叉燒酥?

Where was the durian shrimp spring roll?

Where was the black pepper squid?

Where was the chee cheong fun?

Where was the fried noodles?

Where was the tempura?

Where was the yam cake?

Where was the scallop and prawn dumpling?

Where was the durian ball?

Where was the deep fried bean curd rolls with prawns?

Tiagong last time still got goldfish dumpling and yam puff wor. Today all don't have de.

The 燒賣 was big, but I think the taste could be further improved. Last time still got fish roes on top, nowadays don't have liao. Haiz... 排骨 has not much meat, literally sucking the zhap out of it. The fried stuff were quite nice. 流沙包 was a letdown, 餡少少皮多多!Liked the kueh pie tee dish, but each person only served one. Aigoo. 小籠包 on the other hand was average, of course can't hold a candle against 鼎泰豐/翡翠 those established atas restaurant kind.

Damage: $22.80++

Mentioned today is 7週年紀念. Everybody asked what was it about? Aigoo, they couldn't remember it's the enlistment date!

After the high-tea buffet. Jordan had to leave for Esplanade to watch dimsum dollies and JX had to excuse himself to attend a funeral shortly after we arrived at Orchard, the best option available if leaving Toa Payoh. 4fingers opened a new stall at Ion basement and it had a looonggg queue wqbx. *Waiting for Westgate outlet to open* Left me and PG hanging around lo. With no money on hand, I really didn't want to spend on buying stuffs, whether useful or useless things. Window shopping also didn't help either as I really felt the fatigueness from my legs. Decided to go visit the Korean bakery shop called Paramie at Cineleisure but it turned out that it was closed. Total saggy! 那瞬間真想垮下來坐在地上什麼都不想做!Not sure has it closed down for good or just happened that it was closed today.

Turned to Starbucks at 313. Again, couldn't find a table available for 2 of us. Sian... 不是我不要花錢買水喝憩息下,都沒有位子啊!難怪Starbucks生意越做越大,到處開分店~ The basement received some renovation and it looked a bit dark than last time when it just opened. Tsujiri found a place there but no seats so it doesn't sell desserts. Sag...

真的要做什麼都做不成,這個禮拜有點衰……

In the end, we didn't buy anything, I didn't drink anything (PG bought himself a slurpy from 7-11) and we went home by bus 111 & 185.

Placed an order for U2412m monitor. The reason why I have a particular preference for this monitor is due to three things:

1. It's a 16:10 monitor. Means more estate to work with program, good for web browsing or working with office documents. 16:9 is better for games. Videos wise, I don't see any big difference as the black bar on top and bottom of the 16:10 didn't cause a concern. Not as if it's some other colours.

2. It's a IPS (In-plane switching) monitor. IPS is so much better than TN (Twisted nematic). So far only LG claim supreme in this area. Samsung is using another alternative called PLS (Plane Line Switching) which is similar to IPS as well. For IPS, the colours are natural and closer to the reality - good colour reproduction. Compare my current monitor and iPad/iPhone for example could see the difference. It's not day and night one but could notice it straightaway.

3. Being a 16:10 monitor means it is more expensive than the mainstream 16:9 ones. Typically, 16:10 monitors are considered high-end models with lots of features added to it. So I want to buy a monitor which is cheap and good.

So combine the three abovementioned stuff, it happened that Dell has the right monitor to my needs. Although it is from Dell, the panel is made by LG. Dell only adds in some hardware controls and a exterior cover that's all. So I consider it as a LG monitor le lo.

This 24 monitor is so much modern, not only it's using IPS technology, the backlight is changed from CCFL (cold-cathode fluorescent lamps) to wLED (white light emitting diode, the other type is RGB LED which is more expensive but better) type. By doing this, the power consumption is greatly reduced, sometimes by more than 50% compared to the conventional CCFL one. So the backlight is the biggest consumer of power. The LCD itself only sips about 5-7W. In fact, I think the power consumption would be around the same or even lower than my current monitor which is rated at 34W. Read from review that with out-of-box setting, the U2412m only take in 27W, pretty amazing result!

Cheap leh!

Now because Dell has some Christmas offer/discount, this monitor only go for $276 with a 3-year warranty with premium panel guarantee. $303 for 5-year warranty. Perhaps Sim Lim shops sell about $320-350. Buy online costs about $360. It is not a totally new model as it was released in 2011, but still it's a nice monitor there. Not sure if going to use it after 3 years. Perhaps by then I could have done a major upgrade to computer and with a graphic card, I could have used something bigger... 27 or 30 inch monitor. Hohoho...

That's future.

But for now, I think 24 inch is enough for me and my desktop le. Use revenue from selling iPhone 4S to offset this cost.

Excited ds.

There is nothing wrong with current LG 19 inch monitor, it is still functioning perfectly well after close to 6 years (bought on 3 Feb 2008). In fact, I couldn't bear with it coz it cost $319 and I used my pathetic NS pay to pay for it one. But sometimes I really felt the limitation of a 19 inch display when using it. Since the chance is here, why not grab it? It brings more benefits than bad points lo.
