Back to blogging (continued, part 5)

*不行,我月巴了!

This is part 5 of the back to blogging series, starting with events from June till now. I have not been blogging about the events and thoughts for the past few months. I feel that it helps when you want to review a couple of years later back what has happened today. So I make it a point to blog these things down, even though they sound trivial.

23&24 June Genting Highlands
I admit I'm not that easily addicted to gambling and casino. A short weekend trip to Genting Highlands made me conclude this. I'd rather spend time resting, playing phone, mousehunt, etc. LOL!

Perhaps, I haven't bet a single cent yet. Things might change if I won some money. Haha!

26 June IPT
Started my IPT for year 24 years old. Didn't want it to disturb my schooling. Failed anyway, so it's 10 IPT sessions for me. Only 2 out of 10 are claimable. :(

28 June 4th Korean lesson
For 3rd lesson, 시아 introduced a fundamental concept in Korean called 받침. 받침 refers to the ending consonant in a Korean character and has significant influences in the Korean grammar, especially when pronounce the characters.

I think it's quite interesting as it somehow (but not exactly) retained the middle Chinese characteristics (modern mandarin has lost them). But somehow the pronounication rules make the words sound different from what they appear, it's supposed to make the pronounication easier and natural.

After lesson, we decided to settle our dinner at Kim's Family Restaurant @ Lorong Kilat. Lucky us, the restaurant only closes at 10pm on a weekday.

There's 반찬 which personally I feel it's quite worth compared to Japanese food. The best thing is that it can be refilled. Generally Korean foods are quite big serving one. Ultimately, the cost of 반찬 has been included in the ala-carte price. =X

Ordered 자장면 with Nicholas. Yes! I really that crazy about 자장면. PG had 해물파전 (seafood pancake). Actually we were just sharing our food anyway.

해물파전 was tasty. 자장면 somehow I think 동방홍 one is better, not to say cannot eat at all. Afterall 동방홍 is a Korean-Chinese restaurant and happened 자장면 originates from the Chinese. :)

好吃的반찬ban-chan

一吃就愛上的자장면 (炸醬麵)

海鮮煎餅,真的很不錯咧 ^^

牆壁塗鴉,算是餐館的特色

After that, used PG's phone to kakao Sia so that she has the correct phone number. Then it's 輪到我high的時間啦!

As we walked out of the restaurant, going home, we saw this Korean groceries mart beside it. It might hide some very interesting things. Very curious, we decided to visit the next time we pop by.

29 June Starbucks 1-for-1
Went NTU's Starbucks to enjoy the 1-for-1 offer which lasted from 25 - 29 June (which is the last day!!). There were 2 flavours to choose from: green tea with red beans and hojicha with earl grey jelly.

Without any hestitation, I went for one cup each la... Still need to think meh.

Conclusion: hojicha with earl gary jelly a.k.a 仙草 nicer! :D

2 July Sec sch friends gathering
Attendees:
1. Me
2. YB
3. James
4. Jesslyn
5. YL
6. Sharon
7. YS
8. PH

It was YB who initiated this gathering on my wall (birthday grettings). Thanks to her suggestion, we were able to meet up with each other. The condition was that the venue has to be at Jcube and try to be budget. I suggested Kungfu Paradise and everybody agreed to it.

I wasn't first to arrive (despite I don't have anything on before this). Jesslyn, PH, James and YB arrived first and we continued to wait for the rest to arrive.

*Service at Kungfu Paradise @ Jcube really needs to improve. When we requested for additional seat because there're 8 persons, you could have made another arrangement if you do not want to lend the chair and let poor patron standing. =.= 難道我們就不是食客?

Had a western chicken chop ($???). Honestly it tasted not too bad, compared to some of us, especially the pasta couldn't make it. Of course we had the legendary 流沙包, which was not to be missed!

又是一件讓我可以寫進我的歷史簿子裡的事情~
Friends forever!

The focus was on YS since he was back in sg for a short holiday + business trip. Haha, by right it should be the other way round, but since he has stayed in Japan for half a year which seemed that he works and lives in Japan rather than Singapore.

So YS shared lots of funny but yet eye-opener incidents/experiences. The whole lot of us listened attentively to his story sharing. Then we left Kungfu Paradise to buy some cakes at Rive Gauche Patisserie which were recommended by YB and YL. But I was so full from the western food that I didn't try. Next time perhaps.

As Rive Gauche Patisserie didn't have seats for diner to 品嚐 the cakes, we moved to the kopitiam opposite. Damn paiseh la, bringing outside food there, though James, YL and YS bought stuff from kopititam. There, we continued chatting till about 11pm then 曲終人散.

What YS shared were mostly Japanese office culture, like how's lunch hour is spent, when incident report is required or everyday OT is deemed normal. 不得不佩服日本人敬業的態度,但有時候卻降低工作效率.

5 July 5th Korean lesson
시아 closed up on the topic of 받침 and moved on to construct very simple sentences on self introduction.

For the first time, the textbook was used. Followed quite closely to the textbook's syllabus and learn how to do self introduction, includes greeting, telling your name...

Perhaps I have some background in Japanese, so the Korean sentence structure is not totally stranger to me. In fact, I picked up quite fast. The only thing is the vocab and pronounciation (depends on 받침, the pronounciation changes).

Like Japanese, Korean language needs particles to tell us each part of the sentence. I think it's a trait of SOV language type. I don't see Chinese or English language requires this.

Another feature of Korean is that plural, past tense are present. OMG, all the grammar are haunting me. =X Still remembered how I struggled with English grammar during primary school.

Visited the Korean mart called 롯데마트 before the lesson. Bought some snacks and the candy ($1 compared to $2 for Japanese one, that's cheap!) PG bought the instant 자장면 and gave me and Nicholas one packet to try out. ^^

자장면 (炸醬麵)

After the lesson, we went to try out at 주막 식당, which was located at Beauty World level 4.

Ordered 라면 with 떡볶이 ($12). It was not spicy at all, a bit off my expectation - expected it to be spicy! Nicholas had 자장면, thought 동방홍 has better 자장면. PG had kimchi tofu soup, yummy! And not to mention the 반찬!!! I really feel that it's more worth than Japanese food leh! Haha...

Last but not least, it's the 김치전. Also very very yummy.

我的麵率先登場!看到都想吃!
 拉麵近拍
 炸醬麵,好像差了一點點,但還是好吃的
 泡菜豆腐湯
 김치전

*Hungry as I typed this post out.

6 July Ksuite

學生優惠價

Ksuite is a spin-off from Kbox Karaoke. From what I see, it's a slightly more atas version of Kbox lo. Now, it has student promotion so I went with PG and Sharon lo. $10 nett only!

Funny incident happened between me and Sharon. Was supposed to meet up at Lakeside MRT near last carriage at noon and I reached the platform earlier. Sharon told me she was at the faregate and about to come up to platform, I told her the train coming, asking her to hurry up.

Then the train came, but I didn't see her, so I waited. Then the train left the platform, Sharon called back, asking where was I as she didn't see me.

I told her I was at platform waiting for her la! Alamak! She has gotten onto the train! Aiya, now she gotta drop off at Chinese Garden and wait for me, together with PG. LOL... What a joke of the day.

Upon reaching Ksuite, it was quite nice, quite deserted, to be honest. Perhaps it has just opened recently and people were working on Friday. So it's our heaven!

The room was nicely decorated and there were cushion pillows. In case it's cold, we could use the pillow to cover us, lol. Then there were wireless mics! Ahh, only now then implement wireless mics... =.=

終於有無線麥克風啦!Neway不懂幾久以前就有了

開心到鬼醬~

The best thing was that there was a computer inside each room. There's no need to scare no cellular reception and so on. Because the computer could be used for almost everything, including facebook and checking up songs/lyrics.

After the K session, went back to Jcube with Sharon and we scouted for YB's birthday present. Headed over to Franc Franc and I saw quite a few eligible candidates for the present. In the end, settled for a teapot set and a bathing foam.

Then went dinner at Manna Story Korean Restaurant as Sharon wanted to try. Ok lo, so off we went. But I got a feel it's not completely Korean restaurant lo.

Had 라면 ($13) while Sharon had 비빔밥. Also ordered 떡볶이 ($10) as side dish. 라면 was fine but 떡볶이 was a bit hard to masticate, I prefer 김대문 so far. 반찬 was free flow and was among top in terms of variety. Addicted to 김치 haha...

論裝潢、格調,都高貴過其他比較道地的韓國料理餐館

頭髮長了,很醜!

And there's another K session next day!

Sharon called in the late evening and told me she has gotten 4 NDP preview tickets the next day and asked me if I'm interested. Initially I made my stand as not interested but I'll go with majority lo.

After which Jesslyn said she wanted to go watch NDP preview also, so we got to change the K session from Lot 1 to Marina Square. Last minute cancellation.

Met Sharon around 12.15pm and together we waited for Jesslyn at Lakeside platform. Jess mistook the time as 12.45pm! Omg... Gotta wait for her for another 30 mins, i.e. lunch would be a rushed one.

Had noodles at 包今天 ($4.50). Not too bad la, but a bit salty.

The Kbox room was a bit rundown compared to the newly opened Ksuite. And since when there are Filipino staff serving us? All along I thought only local or Malaysian Chinese would be their staff wor. Had a great 3 hour K session with them.

入場券

Then we made our way to floating platform. It was quite crowded lo, but there was no quarrel or pushovers or something - everything under control.

The goodie bag was interesting and looked much more rugged compared to the previous years. Inside contained the usual stuff lo. The vouchers were mostly useless... Don't think will use them for purchases.

金沙傍晚景色

金融區聳立的高樓大廈

隨著進入夜晚,表演也開始精彩一些

The show is like NDP SOP already, first will have troops marching in, standing there. Then have different government organisation staff coming in and stood there too. After that, some water shows, air shows before the night performance started.

But the weather wasn't so forgiving - it rained! A bit sian la. Felt quite stuffy inside the poncho. There was not much fireworks as it was considered super early preview. Perhaps only 10% of fireworks was fired ba.

Decided to bring the girls to 김대문 for dinner but scared it was closed. Oh my, the girls thought 김대문 was in Plaza Sing and we got to waste 5-10 mins there. :( Indeed, 김대문 was closed for the day.

Then Jess suggested to go for 사랑 Korean Restaurant @ Orchard Central as she really wanted to eat Korean food for that day. Haha, 誇張過我咧!I ordered kimchi fried rice while the girls shared a serving of tofu soup. Then we had 떡볶이 as side dish.

Kimchi fried rice

떡볶이 (ddeokbokki)

豆腐湯

Yes, the food were not cheap, as I've guessed. Quality wise, I still think 김대문 has the upperhand - the kimchi fried rice was not as 夠味 as 김대문's one and the 떡볶이 was not spicy enough. Serving was little.

12 July 6th Korean lesson
PG having ICT and Nicholas didn't turn up for the lesson! Poor me attend lesson alone, but that's ok!

The lesson basically continued from where we've left off in 5th lesson.

In this lesson, more elements were introduced. For example, nationality was added; practices revolved around nationality and asking/answering related questions.

Korea follows the same day format as Japanese, obviously sounds a bit different. The format was used back in ancient China. Korea and Japan retained that system till now. Wow...

... to be continued.
