Back to blogging

Continuing where I stopped the previous time, with this post filling the missing gaps (I forgot to mentioned some of the events in the last post) and filled with lots of pictures (till 31 May). Haha!

5 Mar Lunch buffet
Supervisor received his 15-year long service award. So whole department went to Pan Pacific Hotel for a lunch buffet. First time going such atas hotel/restaurant and I must say the food quality is there. Liked almost all the food!

好吃的美食……

18 Mar i Light 2012 @ Marina Bay
Nothing to do at home after the Dragon Boat Carnival at Yishun which was held the day before, so Nicholas jio me to go this i Light 2012 that evening.

The concept was interesting. We started off with esplanade and made our way in a loop: Fullerton Hotel -> Marina Financial Centre -> MBS and finally Helix bridge.

Below were some pictures taken from iPhone 4S. Haha, didn't bring DSLR along as it was a last minute event.

19 Mar Ippudo
Nicholas was free to come down to Canon centre @ HarbourFront and decided to meet up with me as I was working at the same building. He traded in the old camera and bought the new S100.

So we decided to catch a glimpse of the new iPad at Best Denki @ Vivo. But we went blur when deciding what to have for dinner. LOL!! After so much discussion and walking around the mall, Nicholas suggested to go Ippudo @ Mandarin Gallery for dinner. I agreed since I haven't been there before.

Upon reaching, the scene was familiar, I was here perhaps last year but didn't notice Ippudo was there. There was a queue and it took us about 10 mins before we got our seats.

Ordered spicy and normal ramen with a fried shrimps as side dish.
Just when the ramen was served, we began our photo taking session with S100, iPhone and polaroid camera! Until the patrons beside us kept staring at the polaroid camera. Haha!!! It's not until a good 5 mins later before we can indulge in the ramen world.

I would say the ramen was a tad overpriced, already over $20 per bowl. But the ramen was nice though. Liked the spicy version. The shrimps was normal and expensive also, thought I could get something similar and cheaper elsewhere. My guess the culprit is rental cost.

一風堂

  店內主要以黑、紅、白色為主題,好像是味道的象徵?

  紅色的好吃點,炸蝦就顯得普通了

3 Apr Ben 'n' Jerry Free Cone Day
Yay! One of my favourite 'must-go' was back again. This was the 3rd time I coming down for this event. As usual, I would try to grab at least one cone to satisfy my craving for ice cream. Haha...

Nicholas was at Vivo earlier than me (as I have to work until 6pm) so he had 3 cones while I had 2. I thought this event was almost catered to students because the timing doesn't permit office workers to come and redeem the offer. Looked around and I saw most of them are students. Awkward in office attire. Haha...

Haiz, I thought the peanut butter was good, but it went out of stock so fast! In the end settled for strawberry for the 2nd cone. Both were nice!

Butterscrotch口味,最棒了

4+5 May Outings!
4 May (Fri), HH wanted to come out for a meet up. While all of us agreed to his invitation. Suddenly he just played stunt and all of us were 措手不及. Was a bit pissed off by his last-minute 'event called-off' and it's definitely not the first time liao. Already happened a number of times just this year 2012 alone. Talking about the most emotional person here. Haiz...

In the end, HH still turned up at Saizeriya @ Liang Court, but somehow the atmosphere was a bit weird. Only after some chats, then it was better. Aiyo, don't ever come up with such patterns though I was 過來人 too~

The next day, HL wanted to try out brunch at Group Therapy Cafe @ Duxton Road. So me and Sebastian decided to tag along. PG didn't want to join and HH was having some 天倫之樂 with his 侄女 at the Duck Tour... Quack~~

Heard the settings was Australian style. I liked the coziness these cafes usually bring out. But it would be better had we been allocated to seats of normal heights. Haha... But surely it was a fresh experience to enjoy Brunch.

Ordered cappucino and this main course with duck meat and oranges. The mains were actually very healthy and has the freshness taste to it. Lots of veggies around and contained fruit. Cappucino was nice too. If only they do some patterns at the coffee's surface.

After lunch, we went to look for PG and HH. HH was already at Suntec and PG gave him some surprise by heading down secretly. Looked at how engrossed HH was when playing with iPad, still say might regret his decision. =.=

咖啡普通,鴨肉搭配水果還是頭一遭,蠻特別的,右下角那個就很奶油味

19 May Chilling Day
Just wanted to come out and chilled with PG and Nicholas. We headed to Somerset where there was Cold Stone Creamery @ Orchard Central.

Each cup had a different flavour and I really liked butterscrotch a lot. Enjoyed each spoonful of it. As usual, Nicholas brought his polaroid camera along and people inside the shop were looking at 3 of us taking photos with that camera. They looked interested though. Haha... I thought such cameras are not as rare liao, quite common mah.

After the chilling part, JX joined in and we moved off to the next location for dinner - 김대문! I do not know much history about this. But it seemed it has high popularity so I decided to give it a try. I ordered their 'glass noodles' and 떡볶이 as side dish. The 떡볶이 was spicy but nice. 'Glass noodles' tasted like pad thai though, nothing out of ordinary. But given the cost of each dish, I would say it's pretty good for Korean food. The aunty manning the stall was a Korean though. Haa~

 這間韓國料理店確實價廉物美,還會再光顧的,看下面哈哈

27 May JB
Attendance list:
1. Me
2. PG
3. Nicholas
4. HL

Finally found a time to go JB after everybody has finished their exams and assessment. Actually nothing much, City Square having renovation now and the main thing we go there is to go karaoke. Must be mad liao. But I think karaoke in Singapore is getting more and more expensive. Kbox used to let us enjoy 2-7pm undisturbed period for karaoke and we paid for like $11 per pax at the old JEC? Those were the days. Haiz...

現在City Square裝修,除了卡拉OK,好像沒有什麼會吸引我去了

28 May Off
Taken off today for the Vesak Day holiday. The feeling was good. But I was getting bored and wanted to go out, at the same time, looking for short-term assignment-based jobs. So I asked PG out.

YC also tagged along.

We went to this recruitment agency at City Hall area which PG recommended. After filling up the forms and did some super interviewing/QnA, we left the place and walked to Suntec City. I also don't know why we ended up there. LOL!

But somehow in the evening we hungry liao and I suggested to go 김대문 the second time. This time round I wanted to try something else, so I went for kimchi fried rice ($5). It was really really good. Sticky, but yet the taste of kimchi was 夠味. The pancake looked dull and boring, but tasted like some potatoes went for grilling. Tasted even better when dipped into the special sauce.

After dinner, we walked up to 313 where there was a cafe called Oriole Cafe & Bar. PG wanted to try out their coffee. Actually I felt the coffee was so-so only, nothing special about it. But the ambience was good if wanted to spend the hours chilling.

泡菜炒飯,這個真的不錯!

 韓式煎餅,不會像印度煎餅,至少少了咖哩,少去了油膩感,吃起來也比較‘輕’

 格調不錯,但咖啡就顯得普通去了

31 May Ramen day
Nicholas wanted to try out Marutama Ramen @ Liang Court. It was famous for chicken-based soup rather than the mainstream pork-based ones. So decided to give it a try.

Nicholas preferred pork-based soup for ramen while I had no preference for either one - I'm fine with both. The noodles were a bit like instant noodles, but it tasted fine. No complains. But for the prices at Marutama ($12 with chashu included) and Ippudo ($16 + $3 for chashu), naturally I can't expect too high for Marutama. But it was a good dining experience.

Just when we have finished our meal, the adjacent table was seated with 向雲、陳志財一家人. Haha, decided not to disturb them, we left home after dinner.

以雞肉作為湯底是比較獨特一點,價錢也比Ippudo便宜一些些,算通關吧

*Suddenly remembered last year September when Geraint was back in sg and he drove me and Bay to the Orchard area to catch a movie called 1911. But I merely remembered there wasn't suitable timing, in the end we ended up going somewhere else, was it Holland V or his house? Can't remember. :(

...to be continued.
