I think gym sessions may have an effect after all despite it's a weekly affair. Running on thread mill is easier than running on road.
However, today I went running at the usual route (about 5.2-5.4 km), not only I came back with a faster timing (about 30-31 mins compared to 34-35 mins) and I don't feel that pant as previous rounds.
Perhaps now is to build up the stamina. Until the day when I don't feel pant at all then I shall start running at faster pace.
