Woke up early at 7 am to go for my 2nd interview at a German MNC office in Changi Business Park. Train ride took slightly more than an hour - it was a long long train journey. The fortunate thing was that after Bugis, the MRT is much more deserted as everybody would have exited the stations in CBD, at least got seats to sit down to continue the journey. $1.88 x 2 isn't cheap, but the good thing was that the office is within walking distance.
It's only when I reached Tanah Merah MRT station early in the morning, then I realised so many people are going towards Expo direction. Indeed, most of the passengers alighted at Expo, the moving of crowd was pretty impressive.
On the interview itself, only the hiring manager came down to interview me, so it's a one-to-one and face-to-face interview. Strangely, it's not the HR who do the first round interview - different companies have different practices. He didn't ask a lot of questions which required me to think how to answer him back or questions that were quite technical. Yet, he shared quite a bit on the company, what it does, what is the job scope, etc. In fact, it was the most pleasant experience I had among the three interview which I went thru thus far.
*OMG, I should have read the email carefully because it stated the job that I going to be interviewed for. I applied for Project Engineer but the HR gave me Product Engineer. Only 2-letter difference but I didn't notice in the first place. As the interviewer went on to explain the job, I began to suspect something was wrong somewhere - how could a project engineer doing pre-sale work?! Only then I realised, I had been using project engineer throughout my answer/comment/explanation/description when the real fact was that the job was product engineer. =.= Jin malu T.T Hopefully get shortlisted for the 2nd round interview.
2/10/2013 Interview at Airline Road
Woke up even earlier than the previous day - 5 am, because the interview venue was near to SAF Ferry Terminal (SFT) at Changi and the instruction given was I must be at the guard house by 8.30 am. Jin chor lor. Basically, I left house at around 5.50 am, took train at 6.03 am, reach Tampines 1 hour later, went for a short toilet break, took bus 19, jam here and there a bit before I reached SFT. To make things a bit worse, it rained in the morning!
Upon reaching SFT, the bus took a right turn into Airline Road. I got to alight and exchange my ID for a visitor pass. The signage could have been better or if they merge the two pass offices into one - I went to the wrong pass office! Wasted a bit of time there. Security was rather tight but it's to be expected.
Upon reaching the guardhouse at 8.30 am sharp, I was told to wait at the visitor waiting room until being escorted into the premise. The HR guy also late, so I waited more than 20 mins for him to escort me up. First impression of the buildings - they are old! Even for the HR office, it's rather run-down and gave off a very 90's feel to it.
The interview was conducted by two interviewers, one from HR and one from engineering. They asked general interview questions, which I could answer on the spot, rather than the torturous one on first session. Everything finished within 1 hour. To be honest, I wasn't very confident of that interview.
On my way out of that area somehow felt rather relaxed, took bus to Tampines before I changed to MRT to go Clementi and meet Bay for lunch. Visited Ootoya for the first time and we ordered ala-carte. I forgot what's the dishes care called. If I remembered correctly, one was called Sumi Tori Don and the other was called Oyako Don. Prices ranged between $11~13. I'd let pictures do the talking!
Within hours, they already shortlisted me for another round of interview! A bit of surprise though and I really wondered how many candidates have they filtered out?
My main concern is the location and travelling time, a little bit on the pay also, given it's so far from my house, I need at least 2 hours to travel from my house to there. Wouldn't say die die must get in, see how the pay is like. Really got to weigh all options around liao...
3/10/2013 Out to town area with JX
JX went to job agency at Raffles Place in the morning to explore more avenues to secure a job. As he was free in the afternoon and in town area, he called me out lo. Ok, as I nothing to do at home, so I agreed to go meetup with him.
*Shrugs! Left my ez-link card at home only when I want to tap in at Lakeside station! OMG, got to walk back under the hot sun zzzz...
Took 185 down to Clementi instead of walking back to Lakeside again, causing some 30 mins late. Oh well, I'm not in hurry anyway. Luckily he was at Kino searching for Pacific Rim book which pre-occupied him while I came down from home. We walked around Bugis Junction while waiting for his friend Alex to come down also. Didn't expect Alex to appear too. So we three walked around Bugis Junction and Bugis+, mainly talking about jobs. Surprised and delighted to know what NTU Engineering seems to be more popular with employers than NUS Engineering wor. JX wanted to watch movie but I'm no help to him as I don't follow up what's the latest movies at this point of time. TBH, most of the blockbusters or nice nice ones are in Nov/Dec. Have to wait...
We went to J.co to have some quick bites. Gosh, I haven't seen all these flavours of the donuts there. The donut craze has died down some years ago. Still remembered queued for 4-5 hours for the donuts (as recommended by Sharon). How was I able to tong such long queue? Just amazing.
Played with Note 3 at the Samsung shop. I think it's more or less my next phone after iPhone 4S. Hehe, now waiting for my iPhone 5S to arrive, very long liao leh... Wait until neck also long.
Walked to The Cathay. It seemed that JX really want to watch movie, but aiyo in the end he said actually he's not very interested in watching movies. =.= Wasted our time walking around =.= =.= Again we walked to Orchard Central, Scotts Square, Far Fast Plaza, Shaw Tower. Aigoo the two didn't know Scotts Square exist! Tried out the chicken samurai burger at Lucky Plaza McD. Tasted almost (if not the same) as the teriyaki chicken burger last time McD used to have. Heng not many Filipinos there~
